Herb’s writing began in Graduate school where he penned the solo show In Devil’s Heaven which he performed as his master’s thesis and later at The Manhattan Theater Source in NYC. It is a one-man show following the story of a young boy trying to make his way out of the slums of the inner city. His next venture was Revenge of a King, a hip-hop musical based on Shakespeare’s Hamlet which has been produced multiple times including the University of Arkansas- Pine Bluff (2004), the producers Club NYC (2005), the 2006 New York International Fringe Festival, 2007 National Black Theater Festival in Winston-Salem, N.C., the Cincinnati Black Theater (2008), and will be featured on the 2008-2009 Season of the Black Theater Troupe in Pheonix, AR this January. His latest writing effort is his ode to the bebop era of jazz, FreeMan in Paris, which chronicles the life of Carter Freeman, and his band as they make there way through America in search of the true meaning of freedom. The play will be presented by the standard as part of the standardized: a reading series on Nov. 18th 2008. Initially intended as a one man show, the play will be read with a full cast.
